Steps To Reproduce
  1. attempting to toggle widescreen via menu options.
  2. failing miserably :(

Automatic aspect ratio needs to be turned off in launcher settings to apply widescreen setting in the game.
Untick the box in Launcher > Settings > Display -> Automatic aspect ratio
