The chatbox is very large compared to what games usually have. I'd suggest at least halving the font size, so more than 6-7 lines of text can be shown at one time.

Chatbox can now be resized with /chatscale. Accepted values are decimal numbers from 0 to 1.
0 means 0% size, which means you won't be able to see the chatbox!
0.5 is half.

Also, you can use the cv_chatscale cvar to set this as well. More information on cvars on the wiki:

Updating this to let everybody know that /chatscale is no longer a command.
You need to manually set the CVAR with:

/cvar cv_chatscale 0.5
(This example will scale down the chatbox to half the size of the original)
